WooCommerce data ownership, not vendor lock-in

Own your profit.

Every cost plugin lets you type in an estimate, or configure a rule, or take a percentage of what you charged. None of that is what the label cost. Pitch Midnight pulls the actual fulfillment cost back onto the order after it ships, so the margin number on your report is the real one.

The Rite Sites is now Pitch Midnight.

Same roots since 2017. New name. The toolset keeps growing.

The problem

Do you know which orders actually make money?

Tracking the true profitability of your WooCommerce orders is not possible if you are not including the cost of shipping. Four questions your reports probably cannot answer today:

01

You ship from California. How does profit on an order to California compare to the same order going to New York?

02

How does profit on a 2 lb order compare to one at 5, 10, or 20 lb?

03

You offer free shipping over $50. How do those orders compare to the ones where you charged for it?

04

How does profit on a $25 order compare to a $100 or a $200 order?

Most WooCommerce stores know their revenue to the penny and have no idea what they actually make.

What the difference looks like

An estimate and a label cost are not the same number.

This is the same set of orders scored two ways: once with a typical per-class shipping estimate, and once with the cost that actually came back from the carrier after the label was bought.

Order margin, estimated vs reconciled Illustrative sample data
Order Ship charged Class estimate Actual label Margin (est.) Margin (real)
#10482$8.95 $5.80$14.62 +18.4%-2.1%
#10485$0.00 $5.80$21.07 +22.6%-1.4%
#10491$12.50 $14.20$11.38 +9.2%+14.7%
#10494$0.00 $2.40$8.94 +18.2%+6.6%
#10502$8.95 $5.80$6.11 +20.7%+20.1%
Two of these five orders lost money. The estimate says all five were profitable. The two largest errors are both free-shipping orders, which is the case an estimate is least equipped to catch. One order went the other way: the estimate was too pessimistic, and that is a discount you could afford to offer and did not.

How the number is built

Three things that make the margin figure true.

Actual carrier cost, after the fact

When the label is bought, the real cost comes back from ShipStation and lands on the order. Not a percentage, not a per-class rule, not a number somebody typed in six months ago.

Cost of goods captured at order time

A snapshot of what the goods cost on the day the order was placed, not what they cost today. It is the harder way to build it, and it is the only way last quarter’s margin means anything.

Margin on new vs returning customers

What you make on a first order against what you make on a repeat one. Revenue reports will not tell you whether the cost of acquiring a customer is ever paid back.

Where things stand

Not shipping yet.

The suite is being rebuilt and relaunched under the Pitch Midnight name. There is nothing to buy here today, and there will not be a mailing list.

If you want to know when it lands, or you are an existing Rite Sites customer with a question about your license, send a note. It comes to one person and gets a real answer.
